In a move to enhance emergency response services, the City of Conway, Arkansas, is proud to announce the implementation of the Next Generation 911 (NG911) system powered by RapidDeploy. This state-of-the-art upgrade will modernize how our telecommunicators handle your emergency calls, ensuring faster, more accurate responses and improved outcomes for the people of Conway.

“Our commitment to public safety drives us to adopt cutting-edge technology that benefits the people of Conway,” said Mayor Bart Castleberry. “The new system will provide our telecommunicators with the tools they need to help our first responders rapidly respond to emergency situations. We’re proud to lead the way in emergency response innovation.”

Key Features of the NG911 System Upgrade

  1. Live Traffic Maps and Waze Alerts: Telecommunicators will now have access to real-time traffic data and Waze alerts. This feature will enable them to route emergency responders efficiently, avoiding traffic congestion, and minimizing response times.
  2. Health Data Shared by Callers: When you dial 911, our telecommunicators can share critical health information. Whether it’s a known medical condition, allergies, or medications, this data will empower telecommunicators to provide tailored assistance and relay essential details to first responders.
  3. SMS Messaging: In addition to voice calls, the upgraded system supports SMS messaging. Callers can send text messages to 911, allowing for discreet communication during emergencies or situations where speaking aloud may be unsafe.
  4. Live Video Feed from Incident Scenes: Telecommunicators will have access to live video feeds from incident scenes. Whether it’s a fire, accident, or other emergency, this visual information will aid decision-making and coordination with first responders on the ground.

Implementation Timeline

The rollout of the NG911 system in Conway will begin Wednesday, May 8, 2024, and is expected to take a few hours. During the upgrade process, emergency 911 calls will be forwarded to non-emergency telephone lines within the 911 center. 911 services are not expected to be affected; however, if you are unable to reach 911 for any reason, please contact the Conway Police Department using our non-emergency number (501) 450-6120. Residents can rest assured that their emergency calls will receive the swiftest and most effective response possible.
